1862 is a fairly common date Indian Head cent. For an accurate assessment of value the coin needs to be seen and graded. Most coins of this type have seen heavy use and show a lot of wear. In general retail values for low grade coins are $8.00-$11.00, better grade are $16.00-$28.00 and coins showing almost no wear run from $60.00-$90.00. Values are a market average and only for coins in collectible condition, coins that are bent, corroded, scratched or have been cleaned have far less value if any to a collector or dealer

8-13-11>>> Assuming the coin is circulated and has no mintmark your 1936 Indian Head nickel is the highest mintage of the series, most show heavy wear and only have values of $1.00-$3.00 only better grade coins in the grades of EF-40 to AU-58 have higher values of $8.00-$12.00
