Well, there are just over three feet in one meter. So 1 foot would be just about 1/3rd of a meter. 12 inches to a foot. 3 feet to a yard 5,280 feet to a mile. 100 centimeters to a meter ( centi = 100 ) 1000 meters - 1 kilometer (kilo = 1000) A meter is just a little bit longer than a yard. Other than that, there are no easy relationships between the American system of measurement and the one the ENTIRE REST OF THE CIVILISED WORLD uses, the Metric System. A foot (or maybe it was the yard, I forget..) used to be the distance from the king's elbow to the tip of his index finger. This was cool, so long as the king never lost a finger playing with the royal axe. Every time the king died, all the measurements changed. And they were different for every country... "Hey! You sold me 5 feet of sausage yesterday, and now its only 4 feet long! I want my money back!" Imagine how stupid this is. The metric system is based on precise scientific units, and doesn't change. It's also based on 10 of everything, so it's a lot easier to work with. Unless you have 12 fingers
