The answer is correct but the advice is not. Addition of real numbers is associative which means that you can write strings of addition WITHOUT the need for parentheses (brackets).

(2 + 7) + (8 + 2) = 2 + (7 + 8) + 2 = ((2 + 7) + 8) + 2 etc. ANY one of the sums can be written, without ambiguity, as 2 + 7 + 8 + 2
