Feed drops to zero volts when light switch is turned on back to 120 volts when turned off feeds fluorescent lights?

voltage is measured by voltagd drops. When a switch is open/ off there is a voltage difference between one side to the other. when the switch is on there is no drop from one side of the switch to the other. That is normal operation. If switch is on, and you get a voltage reading across the switch, the switch is bad.

How far apart do you put outdoor pathway lights?

It depends on the lights you use. You want the light to slightly overlap the other lamps.

Why are street lights connected in parallel?

The advantages of parallel arrangement decorative lights are:More brightnessWhen one light bulb blows out, the other ones do notLast much longer than series lights

What causes lights to get brighter when furnace motor comes on?

A loose or disconnected neutral wire at breaker box or at the appliance. Depending on what is on when and if two or more motors are running at the same time. This can as well have the opposite effect too, lights too bright.Although loose connection can cause a problem and you should have all the connections checked, it could also be caused by several other reasons. You distance from and the load on the transformer, the size of you service conductors or lateral, the age and maintenance of your appliances. I have found out that light dimming happens in almost every house but some people are more sensitive to it than others.Usually dimming of lights when an appliance kicks it is caused by a voltage drop of the supply caused by a heavy demand for current when the appliance initially starts. This is usually associated with an appliance that has a motor such as a refrigerator, furnace, washing machine, vacuum cleaner etc. Motors demand about 6 times their steady running current when they first start up and this can be a significant surge of current for maybe a half second or so till the motor has started and is up to speed. This basically momentarily 'overloads' the supply and lowers the voltage available to other devices, thereby causing them to momentarily slow down (if a motor) or dim (if it is a lamp). If you switch to the new power saving compact spiral bulbs, their internal electronic ballast compensates somewhat for line voltage, so they won't react as noticeably to heavy loads starting up elsewhere in your house. The same is true for fluorescent tube fixtures with electronic ballasts. One more point:If the lights are on a dimmer, they are very sensitive to change in voltage and will change their brightness disproportionately to the slight changes in voltage caused by motors or other heavier loads switching off and on.

Why won't fluorescent lights come on all the way and what can you do about it?

Two of the main reasons fluorescent fixtures won't work is the ambient temperature is too cold and the other is the fixture is not properly grounded.

Why are fluorescent lights better compared to other kinds?

The main advantage of fluorescent lights is that they provide the same level of brightness as normal lights, while being 66 percent cheaper in the process. They also last about six times longer than normal lights. Lastly, they do not emit heat.

Can you put 4 - 32 watt 48 inch fluorescent lights and 8 outlets on 1 - 20 amp breaker?

Probably not. You have to do a bit of searching. 2 x 4 fluorescent fixtures usually have two ballasts in them. What you need to do is look at the amperage printed on the ballast label. Multiply that number by 18 for the nine fixtures. The door openers will probably only be used at one at a time. But they are motor loads and could draw up to 15 amps instantaneous on start up.The best bet is to split the circuit up, putting the lights on one circuit and the door openers on the other circuit. This can be done by using a three wire cable for the circuit.

What are the different types of ceiling light fixtures?

Most fluorescent lights are linear in shape, but some are u shaped, and others (the compact fluorescents) are bent into various other shapes. Fluorescent lights come in a variety of lengths, a variety of voltage, a variety of light colors (all are more or less white, but the white can be tinged with varying degrees of other colors), a variety of tube diameter, differing quantities of mercury, a variety of brightness, a variety of socket types (some have one pin on each end, some have two, and the compact fluorescents are designed to screw into a socet the same way an incandescent bulb does). All these differences come in various combinations, so that there are literally thousands of different types of fluorescent lights.

What is the length of a fluorescent tube?

There is no single length. In the US, 4- and 8-foot tubes are commonly used in commercial applications while 2- and 4-foot tubes are made for home fixtures. However there are many other sizes available for specialty and decorative fixtures.

Fluorescent HID lights best accompany what soil type?

Fluorescent HID lights work well with all types of soil, instead try matching the type of fluorescent light with the type of plant you're growing. Hot Trend for Home Offices: Recessed Fluorescent Lighting?

Recessed fluorescent lighting is typically used in areas where indirect light is preferred to reduce glare and other visual disturbances common with the use of fluorescent lighting. This includes offices, classrooms and more recently, home office and workspaces. Fluorescent lights are highly efficient and cost significantly less to operate than traditional incandescent lights. The problem, as mentioned already, is that the use of fluorescents leads to unpleasant effects for some applications. This is why the use of recessed fluorescent lighting has become very popular. With recessed fluorescent lighting, the lighting is indirect. This is an effective way to reduce glare and make the lighting more effective. There are baffles and reflectors that you can install to reduce direct light from recessed fluorescent fixtures as well. When considering recessed fluorescent lighting, you will find that there are many different options for the type and size of fixtures. There are also many different styles of covers available for recessed fixtures. The most commonly used recessed fluorescent fixture is called a troffer and it allows assess through a hinged assembly for easy access. Some recessed fluorescent fixtures can be set up with a battery backup for use in an emergency. Keep in mind that this will result in less output from the light, but ample for safety reasons in the event of a power outage. When you need specific lighting, such as in an office setting, you should talk to a lighting professional in order to find out what the best possible combination of lighting will be for your situation. Depending on the size of the area, the amount of natural light and how many people will use the area, the lighting requirements will vary. A lighting designer is your best advocate when it comes to saving money and increasing efficiency with lighting design. If possible, your recessed fluorescent fixtures should be installed and fully tested prior to the rest of the room being finished. It is probably a good idea to have the walls painted and furniture in place in order to see how everything will flow together with the new lighting.

What well happen if the light bulb was not invented?

We would use other sources of light such as fluorescent light tubes or neon lights.
