By using the Autosum feature. Select the cell below the last number and click on the Autosum and it will automatically total the numbers in the column.
Yes, that is normally what happens. However, there are exceptions. For example, you can select a column of numbers and when you click Autosum, it will put a total in the cell below the column. It is also possible to have it entered in more than one cell. For example, if you have a group of columns with numbers, you can select the line of cells below those columns or all of the columns. There will still only be one active cell, but clicking the Autosum button will put a total under each column.
The best way to do it is to use the SUM function. Put the cursor in the cell at the below the column numbers and press the Autosum button.

Click on the letter at the top of the spreadsheet for the column you want to resize. Click the "Home" tab. Click on "Format" in the "Cells" area on the ribbon. Click on "Autofit column width". This will size the column to the largest cell in the column.
It you select the blank cell under a column of numbers or a blank cell at the end of a row of numbers and hit the Autosum button it will enter the SUM function and select the cells above in the column, or to the left in a row. Pressing Alt and the = key will also do the same thing. If you select the column or the row with the numbers and click the button or do Alt and the = key, then it will also do the same.
I usually click and drag the cell borderline on the edge of the spreadsheet to where I want it. You can also right-click the row or column number or letter, and enter a new size for the column and row that define the cell in question.
