A Prime number is one that has only 2 factors, itself and one. A composite number is one that can be written as the product of two numbers that are not itself.

By these definitions, 1 and 0 fail to be either composite or prime. 1 can only be divided by one, so it does not have the 2 necessary factors to be prime or the multiple required to be composite. 0 on the other hand can be divided evenly by every number, but no two numbers that are not 0 can be multiplied to get a product of 0.

Which are the numbers that are neither prime nor composite?

Zero and one.

Is zero prime or composite?

Neither.

What whole number are neither prime or composite?

One is neither a prime nor a composite number. A prime number is one with exactly two positive divisors, itself and one. One has only one positive divisor which is itself so it is not prime. Furthermore, it cannot be written as a product of two factors, neither of which is itself. This tells us that one is also not composite. The other number which is neither prime not composite is Zero which has an infinite number of divisors since any nonzero whole number divides zero. Zero cannot be be written as a product of two factors, neither of which is itself, so zero is also not composite.

Is zero a prime or composite?

Zero is neither (anyone can type a random answer you know) But zero is neither prime nor composite

If 0 and 1 are not composite or prime numbers then what are they?

First, zero is not applied to the terms prime and composite because the definitions only apply to natural numbers (positive whole numbers, which does not include zero). One is not prime or composite because one is the unit that is used within the definition of prime of composite numbers, and many definitions of prime and composite even exclude one from the definition. If you want to categorize one within a discussion of prime and composite, it is common to simply call one the unit.

Why is zero said to be a composite number?

Zero is neither composite nor prime.

What two numbers are both prime and composite?

Zero and one are neither prime nor composite, every other positive integer is one or the other.

What is one of the two numbers that are neither prime or composite. and is not a zero?

It is 1 that is not considered to be a prime or a composite number because it has only one factor which is itself

If zero is not prime or composite what is it?

There is no name for numbers which are neither prime nor composite.

What are the number 1 and zero called since neither are prime or composite?
