Nobody has "240 watt mains". Perhaps you meant "240-volt mains".
You would need to have a lighting or receptacle branch circuit, with over-current protection, in order to use any halogen bulb.
However, if you have a 300 W bulb, it should work nicely in a 15-A or 20-A branch circuit.
Halogen H4 55 Watts bulb.
300 watts is the correct answer
Halogen gas is in a Tungsten-Halogen Light Bulb.
Fluorescents are always 3-4 times more efficient than halogens which are a version of incandescent bulb.
A 20 watt incandesent bulb is dim. For a medium sized room you need 100 watts. A 20 watt halogen bulb is brighter but still quite dim. These are marketed as low-energy but they are not. For a medium sized room you need 80 watts. A 20 watt fluorescent bulb can light a medium sized room quite brightly. This is a genuine low energy bulb.

Halogens are about 30% more efficient so 300 watts incandescent is equivalent to about 210 watts halogen. It's also equivalent in brightness to about 60 watts CFL.

Watts = Volts X Amps. Amps=Watt / Volts. So, with a 240V mains, a 60W bulb draws 0.25amps. On a 12 system (car/auto) a 60W bulb draws 5 amps. On a 110V mains, a 60W bulb draws .55 Amps.

The heat dissipation is what the fixture is rated for. They are saying maximum heat of 25 watts so 40 watts is going to be too much.
