6530 cmils
The diameter of the wire measured in MCM, (thousand circular mils). Wire sizes in the U.S. are described in AWG, (American Wire Gauge) such as #12 awg printed on the wire.
It is a wire size, the equivalent cross sectional area in thousands of circular mils. e.g. 500 MCM or kcmil = 500,000 circular mils. The circular mil is a unit of area used especially when denoting the cross-sectional size of a wire. It is the equivalent area of a circle whose diameter is 0.001 (10-3) inch. AWG stands for American Wire Guage.
AWG stands for American Wire Gauge. It is a standardized wire gauging system for the diameters of round, solid, electrically conducting wire.

In cooper electrical wire, gauge 8 means the wire size assigned by the American Wire Gauge (AWG) system. That is why you always will hear about AWG WIRE, it's not the type of wire is the gauge that we are talking about. A gauge 8 wire will be used for connections requiring from 40-45 amps to a maximum of 73 amps. (24 for power transmission). Diameter of an 8 AWG wire is 0.12849 inches. 8 AWG is solid, not stranded.

No. A #20 wire does not have the physical circular mils for a load of 30 amps. The wire would burn the circuit open.
408.6 mils
For Service Entrance Cable 600 kcmill (Thousands of circular mils).
Approximate overall diameter of the wire is 12.8 mm. If you are looking for metric wire size 95 mm2. 187500 circular mils.

Using the AWG for wire sizes only goes up to 4/0. After that the increases use MCM to size the wire. So your 262 MCM wire size will be same in AWG. There is no 262 MCM in the North American market place. It goes in 50 MCM increments starting at 250 MCM , 300 MCM, 350 MCM, 400 MCM right up to 2000 MCM cable.

Beats me, the National Electrical Code does not list a #9 awg wire.

American Wire Guage. The smaller the number the larger the wire. As in an AWG 14/2 wire is much smaller than an AWG 10/2 wire.
