With a population of nearly 600,000, Denver, CO is the largest city in and capital city of the state of Colorado. The city, which is often referred to as the "Mile High City," sits in the middle of the Rocky Mountains and has an elevation of about one mile above sea level. Despite being located in the middle of a vast mountain range, the city has a healthy economy and has the country's tenth largest business district. Due to the vast amount of recreational opportunities in and around Denver, the Denver area attracts many tourists each year.
Denver is best known for the recreational and site seeing opportunities. Denver is located inside of the Rocky Mountains, and because of that has many different hiking trails which provide spectacular view of both the city and the mountain ranges. The best trails are normally located at least 15 minutes outside of the city, but are well worth the extra trip. Many of the trails are designed for short trips that can be walked by people of all ages and fitness levels.
For beer enthusiasts, the city of Denver offers an amazing microbrewery tour. The Denver Microbrew Tour is a guided walking tour, which takes about two hours and visits various microbreweries located in and around Denver. While on the tour, visitors get to sample unique and local beers at each brewery and even receive a free pint at one of the stops. The tour guides are very knowledgeable about Denver's microbrewery industry as well as the city's overall history.
Another popular attraction in the city of Denver, CO is the Denver Zoo. The Denver Zoo is one of the most popular and reputable zoos in the world. The zoo houses over 4,000 animals which are spread across 700 species. The zoo has a fantastic indoor rainforest, which is well acclaimed because of its Komodo dragon exhibit, which is the largest dragon exhibit in the world. In the zoo's "Predator Ridge," visitors can get up close with lions and hyenas and actually listen to them communicate with each other.
For the sports fan, Denver also has many different opportunities. Denver is one of just a few US cities that is home to one team from each of the four major sports. Coors Field, which is the come of the Colorado Rockies, is located downtown and surrounded by various different bars and restaurants, which can be enjoyed before or after the game.
