It is a neighborhood in which all hubs are straightforwardly associated with a typical focal computer.Every workstation is in a roundabout way joined with each other through the focal PC. In some star systems, the focal PC can likewise work as a workstation.

It is a system topology in which every hub join with precisely two different hubs, shaping a solitary constant pathway for signs through every hub a ring. Information head out from hub to hub, with every hub along the way taking care of each parcel.

The physical layout of the network topology for each network setup makes it different from the others.

1) Star : One Hub conneted to every computer.

2) Bus : One long cable that goes to many computers.

3) Ring : All connected in a ring like network, if one computer crashes they all do.

Ring:A ring network is a bunch of computers directly connected to each other, forming a ring. In its simplest form:

Computer A is connected to Computer BComputer B is then also connected to Computer CComputer C is then also connected to Computer A

(As a side-note: this, therefore requires each computer to have 2 Ethernet ports.)

Bus:

In a bus network, all computers involved are connected to a single "backbone" cable. This is a much simpler setup (schematically, at least).

Depending upon the situation, a bus setup could cost more than a ring, but buses do have the benefit of making it easier to add more computers as needed.

The differentiation can be done in points as follows :

  1. The star topology consists of a central node to which all other nodes are connected by a single path.
  2. The bus topology consists of a single length of the transmission medium (normally coaxial cable) onto which the various nodes are attached.
  3. In the case of the ring topology, each node is connected to two and only two neighbouring nodes.

What is difference between Token Ring Token Bus?

In a token bus network architecture, the nodes at either end of the bus do not actually meet. In a token ring, the network logically functions as a ring, but is wired as a star.

What type of network topology for a small company of 20 employees a bus network or ring network or star network?

Star is more appropriate, it's little bit expensive than for instance ring but it's easier to maintain and the bandwidth is higher (depending on UTP you are going to use).
