One way would be to get a container into which you could put the rock completely, fill it to the brim with water (without the rock in it), then put the rock in and measure the volume of the water that flowed out.

How do you find the volume of n irregularly shaped rock?

use a graduated cylinder or other volume measuring container. just put a certain amount of water in, take note of it, then put the rock in and measure the difference, make sure the water goes up and above the rock though

How do I find the volume of a rock?

Irregularly shaped objects have no formula for finding the volume. So, to find the volume of a rock, one method is to measure how much water the rock displaces. You simply need some sort of container that measures the volume of liquids and you need some water. The container should be large enough to put the rock in. First, fill the container to a certain volume, noting what that volume is and making sure that enough water is used to completely cover the rock when you put the rock in the container. Next place the rock into the container and measure the new volume indicated by the water. Subtract this new volume with the old volume, and the answer will be the volume of the rock. Another method is to use the rock's mass and density to calculate the volume. This can be tougher because you might not know what type of rock you have and many rocks are composites of different types of rocks. Some internet websites give the densities of different rocks. The website http://www.earthsci.unimelb.edu.au/ES304/MODULES/GRAV/NOTES/densities.html gives some simple densities. But if you have all this information, the volume can be determined by measuring the mass of the rock and dividing that number by the density.

What is the density if a rock is 212 mass and the volume is 12g?

This question cannot be answered for the following reasons: 1. There are no units for the mass of the rock. It could be 212 kilograms, pounds, tons etc. 2. The volume cannot be measured in g - which stands for grams (a measure of mass). It is not possible to determine whether the volume is in litres, cubic feet or any other measure.

How is the mass of a rock measured?

You put it on a scale or a triple-beam balance. It'll give you the mass. However, if you have the density of the rock, divide it by the volume to find the mass mathematically. You can also find the volume by the water displacement method, where you placed the rock in a graduated cylinder/beaker filled partially with water and record the difference between the original water level and the raised water level after placing the rock inside the container.

If a right circular cylinder with radius 7 Cm contains 1077 cm cubed of water a rock is measured in the water and the level rises 3 cm what is the volume of the rock?

First obtain the height of the cylinder. Height = 1077/area of the base (i.e H = 1077 divided by pie-radius-squared) Next get how much water does 1cm of height contain. Take 1077/height. Therefore, volume of rock = 1cm height's volume x 3

What tool is used for finding the volume of a irregularly shaped rock this method?

Depending on the size of the rock - if it is small enough it can be measured in a container with water the size can be judged by seeing how much water it displaces

How would you find the density of an irregularly shaped object such as a rock?

Weight it. Find it's volume. (hint - how much water does it displace). Divide.

what are some behavioral adaptations of mountain goat?

Adaptations enable Mountain Goats to navigate rock faces. Their forelimbs help them climb or brake on irregularly shaped rock.

Mass of rock?

Mass is measured by density multiplied by volume. In order to figure out a mass of a rock, one must know its density and its volume measurements.

What is a volcanic plate?

A tectonic plate is a massive, irregularly shaped slab of solid rock. These plates can make volcanic activity, mountains, and several other things as well.

How is the volume of a rock measured?

One way to do it is fill a graduated cylinder with water and record the number, next put the rock in the water and be careful not to spill any water. Record the volume of the rock and the water together. The difference in the volumes is the volume of the rock.

How would you determine the density of an irregular shaped rock?

Not always easy. Since density is defined as the mass of a unit volume of material, you would measure the volume of the rock by putting it into a container half filled with water and then measure the volume change.

What is irregularly shaped pluton that is similar to batholith but smaller?

A batholith is a plutonic rock that forms in the Earth's crust. A large deposit of granite, diorite, or quartz monzonite are structures or landforms that could be a batholith.
