5 seconds of summer started when Luke Hemmings started posting videos of himself singing with his guitar. Later on Calum Hood and Michael Clifford started doing covers with him also. Those 3 met through the school they were going to at the time. Michael Clifford came up with the name 5 Seconds of Summer for no peculiar reason. Then the boys had a gig scheduled at a pub and realized they needed a drummer. Michael knew Ashton Irwin from when they went to the same party once. Michael messaged Ashton on Facebook asking him to play a gig with them. Ashton agreed and after the gig was over with the 3 boys(Luke Calum and Michael) discussed whether or not they wanted to ask Ashton to join the band for good.
