He took the weight of the crown and then used water displacement to determine the volume. He could then deduce the density of the crown. Various types of metals have different densities. Density is the mass to volume ratio. Or in better terms, how tightly the molecules are packed together in a substance. If the density of the crown was different than that of any other piece of gold, it was not gold. The bath make him weight then die.

The king suspected that the gold had been mixed with silver, which is worth less than gold. So he asked Archimedes to try to resolve the question. The solution would have been easy if the king had allowed the crown to be melted down. Since that was no possible, Archimedes had to find another solution to determine the metal content of the crown. Archimedes discovered the answer while at a public bath. He noticed that when he got into the water, it overflowed the tub. By measuring the overflow, he found that the volume-the amount of space a thing occupies-of the spilled water was equal to the volume of his body under water. He realized he could determine the gold content of the crown by measuring the water it would displace against the amount of water displaced by a lump of gold weighing the same as the crown. The crown and lump of gold would each displace the same amount of water if the crown were solid gold. If the crown contained silver, it would displace more water, since the volume of a weight of silver is greater than the volume of the same weight of gold. With this discovery, Archimedes leaped from his bath and in his excitement raced naked down the street toward his home, shouting "EUREKA! A few days later a group of marines attacked in the middle of the night. The Romans blockaded the trade routes and made Syracuse starve for six months with they attacked again. This time they entered the city. A roman solider slew Archimedes in the attack. His last words were "Do not disturb my circles." The moral focus trait that radiates from him appears to be wisdom and he used it when making most of his inventions and laws. He used it in making the Archimedes Screw, Pi, and in figuring out the golden crown. The water screw is still used today as well as Pi.

Archimedes was sent to measure the density of the crown but he wasn't aloud to melt it so he had to find a new way. He took a bath and noticed that the water rose when he went inside, so he ran butt naked to the king to say "eureka" and that's how we got measurement by water displacement and that's how he got the title "The Streaker"
