I suspect you mean exponents of 10

Take a large number...

34675.

When you move the decimal point to the left you are effectively dividing the number by 10.

So what you do is you move the exponent left n places but then multiply the number by 10ⁿ

example

34675. = 3.4675×10000 = 3.4675×10^4

Also when you move the decimal point to the right you are multiply by 10 so.

since....1/10000 = 1/10^4 = 10^-4

so

0.0234 = 2.34/100 = 2.34 x 10^-2
