An abstract, esoteric mathematical operation known as "division." Divide mass by density, and you get volume.

A note for purists: Technically speaking, specific gravity is not density, it is a ratio of densities. However, since one of the materials in the ratio is water, and its density is well known, it's easy to calculate the density of a material from its specific gravity.

What is mass of a cube?

The dimension of the side in cm are required to calculate the volume (cm3) and density in g/cm3 or specific gravity of the substance is then used to calculate the mass. Mass = Volume x Density

What is the diameter of 150kg metallic ball if specific gravity is 12?

First, you have to calculate the ball's volume. Just divide the mass by the specific gravity. Then use the formula for the volume of a sphere. Solve for r (radius). The diameter is twice the radius.

How to Find Volume when given mass and specific gravity of a mineral mass 2851.2g specific gravity 4.2 what is volume?

weight = mass * gravitational constant. Newtons (weight) = kg * m / sec^2 for instance.

What is the ratio of the mass of the substance to the mass of an equal volume of water?

specific gravity

How to Find Volume when given mass and specific gravity?

Volume = mass / specific gravity. Units are cubic centimeters and grams or cubic meters and tonnes. s.g. has no units : it is a dimensionless quantity.

What is the ratio of the mass of the substance to the mass of an equal volume of water called?

Specific Gravity

How can you describe the relationship between mass and volume for these samples?

Relative densities (specific gravity) density of sample = mass / volume

What does it mean when a mineral has a specific gravity of 4.0?

A specific gravity of 4.0 for a mineral means that a given volume of the mineral has 4.0 times the mass of the same volume of water.

What is the answer of the mass of 6.0 g. and the volume of 12.0 cm3?

The specific gravity is 0.5

What you used to find the mass of materials and substances?

if you know the specific gravity and the volume of the substance you can find the mass.

What is the law of density?

Density = mass/volume or D=m/v

A piece of metal has a mass of 200 g and a volume of 2 cm3 What is its specific gravity?

Specific gravity refers to the ratio of the density of a substance to the density of a standard, which is usually water. A piece of metal that has a mass of 200 g and a volume of 2 cm3 has a specific gravity of 100.
