To change any fraction into a decimal you simply divide the numerator (top of the fraction) by the denominator (bottom of the fraction) so:

.

5 1/3 = 5.3 (the dot over the three signifying recurring)

Here I didn't bother to make the fraction top heavy I just added it to the units, so alternatively:

16/3 (5 * 3 + 1 all over 3) I also get 5.333333333333...

What is 5 minus one third?

The question is ambiguous. There are two plain readings: In the first, 5 - 1/3 = 4 2/3 or four and two thirds. Expressed as a decimal, this is equal to 4.6 recurring (that is, 4.6666...). In the second, 5 - one-third OF 5 is 5 - 5/3 is 10/3, or 3 1/3, or three and one-third.
