Best Answer

Move the decimal to the right as many spaces as it takes to make it a whole number, and that whole becomes the numerator.

The denominator becomes the exponent of 10 that has that same number of zeroes.

Example:

0.625 = 0.625/1 = 625/1000 (moved three places)

This simplifies by division using 125/125 and is 5/8 in simplest form

To change a fraction into a decimal , divide the numerator by the denominator.

EXAMPLE: About 1/20 of the heat in a house is lost through the doors.

  • 1/20 or 1 over 20 means 1 divided by 20
  • 1 divided by 20 is 0.005
  • So, 1/20 or 1 over 20 is equal to 0.05

Divide the numerator by the denominator.

CONVERTING DECIMAL TO FRACTION

Example: Change 12.2 into fraction

1. Make 12.2 into a whole number.

In this case, multiply 12.2 by 10.

2. Whatever is multiplied to 12.2 should also be divided to it so as not to change the value of 12.2.

Therefore:

12.2 * 10/10 = 122/10 or 61/5 in fraction in lowest term
