This can be easily done by remembering one simple rule:

Dividing by a fraction is identical to multiplying by the inverse of that fraction.

In this case then, dividing by 1/2 is identical to multiplying by 2/1. So we can say:

1/3 ÷ 1/2

= 1/3 × 2/1

= (1 × 2)/(3 × 1)

= 2/3
