Best Answer

multiply the inches divided by 10 by 1.2 ex) 1' - 3 " put the inches where X is take (X/10)* 1.2 1' - 3" = (3/10) * 1.2 = .36 Therefore 1' - 3" = 1.36' That answer is totally incorrect. Here's how you do it. Let's say you have 10'5" Take the 10 feet and multiply by 12 to get 120 inches. Add the 5 inches to the 120 inches and you get 125 inches. Now, divide 125 by 12 to get your answer. 10.416 feet is the answer.

To prove my point, we all know 6" is half a foot. We also know .5 is half a foot in decimal form. Divide 6 by 12, you get .5 Problem solved. By the way, it's very simple to make Excel do this conversion for you.

The question does not make sense unless you specify tenths of what! Tenths of a mile, tenths of a foot, tenths of an inch, tenths of a micrometre etc.
