I guess you mean a mixed fraction, such as 5 2/3, which basically means 5 + 2/3. To get the multiplicative inverse, you must first convert the fraction to an improper fraction (in this example, 17/3). Then, to get the multiplicative inverse, you exchange top and bottom (in this example, 3/17).

Note that to do the conversion, I multiplied 5 x 3, and added 2 to the result. This number (17) goes into the numerator (top); the denominator (bottom) doesn't change.

What is a multiplacative inverse?

when you flip a fraction or whole number upside down. a/b = b/a.

When you divide a whole number by a fraction with a numerator of 1 explain how you find the quotient?

You simply multiply the whole number by the denominator. A whole number divided by a fraction is the whole number times the inverse of the fraction. For example, 8 divided by 1/4 is 8 times 4 = 32.

Must the opposite of a rational number be a rational number?

No. A rational number is one that may be represented as a simple multiple, or a division. Such as one times seven, or three times seven; OR one divided by seven, or three divided by seven. Or similar.A rational number, if a fraction, when multiplied by the divisor of the fraction, will give a simple whole number. e.g. 7/5, when multiplied by 5 becomes the whole number 7.An irrational number is one that cannot be formed by a simple ratio, or a simple division. e and pi are a couple of common irrational numbers. [irrational demonstrates where the name comes from.]No number can be found which will convert them, by multiplication, into a whole number.

How do you make a whole number into a fraction -?

You can make any whole number into a fraction by putting it over 1.

What dies it mean to divide a whole number by a fraction?

To divide a whole number by a fraction, you can rewrite the fraction as a whole number by multiplying the denominator by the whole number. Then, divide the resulting whole number by the numerator of the fraction. This process is equivalent to multiplying the whole number by the reciprocal of the fraction.

Divide 1 by the number. The multiplicative inverse of 7 is 1/7, for example.

How do you multiplicative an inverse when its a whole number?

The multiplicative inverse of any non-zero integer, N is 1/N.

What is the multiplicative inverse of a whole number?

Let m be a whole number, then the multiplicative inverse of m is a number n such that mn=1 since 1 is the multiplicative identity. There is only one choice for n, it is 1/m since m(1/m)=1

Which is the multiplicative identity for whole numbers?

The multiplicative identity of a number leaves that number unchanged under multiplication. Thus the multiplicative identity of any number is 1.

What is the inverse of a whole number?

0 has no inverse. Otherwise it is the reciprocal of the number.

What is the integer opposite of -9?

If you mean each side of 9 then the integers or whole numbers are 8 and 10

Is the opposite of a whole number a whole number?

if the opposite you are saying is the inverse, then the answer is no.

A fraction and a whole number with a whole number product?

The answer can be another fraction and a whole number or it can be a whole number.

How do you divide a whole number with a fraction by a whole number?

Remember that division is a fancy name for multiplying by an inverse. Basically (n/p)/s is equivalent to (n/p)(1/s) or n/(ps).
