The SI usit for energy is the joule, which is 1 kgm2/s2. Another common measurement of energy is the calorie, which is the amount of energy it takes to increase the temperature of one gram of water by one degree Celcius.

The "Calorie" used to describe food is actually a kilocalorie, meaning it has 1000 calories. It is always capitalized when talking about diet.
