The rule is:
round 1, 2, 3, 4 down
round 6, 7, 8, 9 up
and round 5 to even
This is in accordance with the IEEE standard 754 (Institute of Electronic and Electrical Engineers).
The commonly taught alternative, of rounding 1, 2, 3, 4 down and 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 up, introduces a bias.

∙ 9y agoTo round 55 to the nearest ten, look at the digit in one's place. If it is 5 or greater, round the digit in hundred's place to the next higher digit. If the digit in the one's place is less than 5, do not change the digit in hundred's place
