If it's just a small square known as a Ballot box check box then hold down the Alt key and make sure the Number Lock is on. Then using your computer number pad (for the numbers) type in #9744. This may not work for all writing/publishing type programs. For example, it will wok for Microsoft Word but not when trying to print a square on a Wikianswers question/answer.
Alternatively, when using a program such as Microsoft Word then click on the "Insert" heading in the toolbar, select shapes, select the square, and when you click on the page where you wish to put the shape, a square will be generated and you can adjust the size.

You must use character map to type out the abbreviated form of partial eta squared (ηρ²) since it uses Greek letters which are not included on an English based keyboard.
The generally accepted way to type powers of a number is by using the carat symbol, or "^." So five to the second power (or squared) is 5^2.
There is a shortcut to making ² symbol, and it is Alt0178, which is hold down Alt button and while held down type 0178 numbers then release Alt button. Maybe there are special keyboards that can be bought that have it included; not sure.
