I'm also fourteen. If you want a good 5k time you must practice and push yourself. What gets you through those short races is your long run. Start off with a mile and increase the distance at max 2 miles a week. Limit yourself at 12 miles. If you train properly you should easily be able to run a race in under 20 minutes. Another thing you can do is buy a good pair of trainers for your long runs and then track cleats for the races. I would recommend Asics but other brands will do. If you go to a running specialty store then they will tell you exactly what you need based on your arch. I have a naturally low arch and i need a high level of support for my feet so i don't get injured. Sorry for all the extra info but i though it might be helpful. For more info go to http://www.runnersworld.com/. They have diet plans, injury prevention tips, ect.-Jonathon Bailey
