The current world record for men is 2.45 meters (8 feet 0.46 inches) held by Javier Sotomayer in 1993. The current world record for women is 2.09 meters (6 feet 10.28 inches) held by Stefka Kostadinova in 1987.

An "average" dog is hard to determine, since there is so much variety in different breeds. Based on some of the following information, I would say the average high jump for a dog, depending on size, is between 2-4 feet (24-48 inches).

  • An Indian stray dog can jump up to 4.5 feet.
  • The world record for a dog jump is 68 inches.
  • The requirements for the Dog Agility competition in the USDAA ranges from 12 inches to 26 inches, depending on the size of the dog.

There are many stories of dogs jumping fences of 6-8 feet high, but experts say that a high jump of that height is unlikely, and although some dogs can surmount fences of that height, there is probably some climbing/scrambling mixed in, rather than a straight high jump.
