A circuit breaker is an automatically operated electrical switch. Its protect an electrical circuit from damage over load and short circuit. A circuit breaker can be reset to resume normal operation.

It depends on the circuit breaker. A miniature circuit breaker, for example, contains a bimetallic temperature sensor (overload current protection) and a magnetic trip (short-circuit current protection). On the other hand a high-voltage circuit breaker contains no sensors but relies, instead, on external protective relays which, when activated, energise a trip coil within the circuit breaker, which trips the breaker.

Is a circuit breaker a resistor?

No, a circuit breaker is a safety device that is used in a circuit to limit the amount of current in an overload or short circuit condition. The number on a breaker is the top end current that the breaker will handle before opening the circuit.

What is a non auto circuit breaker?

A non-auto circuit breaker is a circuit breaker with the trip element removed. Basically, it is a modified circuit breaker that is now a disconnect switch (glorified disconnect switch).

What is the difference between making capacity and breaking capacity of a circuit breaker?

Making capacity of a circuit breaker is the maximum current which the breaker can conduct at the instant of closing. Breaking capacity of the circuit breaker refers to the maximum current that the circuit breaker can interrupt.

What causes a circuit breaker to switched off?

The need to de energize the circuit the breaker is feeding is a cause to have a circuit breaker switched off. If you are referring to a breaker tripping off, the cause would be from an overload condition being applied to the circuit, the breaker sensing it and shutting the circuit off.

What is a electric circuit breaker?

What are the differences between isolator and circuit breaker?

isolator is a off load device which is used for isolating the downstream circuits from upstream circuits for the reason of any maintanance on downstream circuits. it is manually operated and does not contain any solenoid unlike circuit breaker. it should not be operated while it is having load. first theload on it must be made zero and then it can safely operated. its specification only rated current is given.but circuit breaker is onload automatic device used for breaking the circuit incase of abnormal conditions like shortcircuit, overload etc., it is having three specification 1 is rated current and 2 is short circuit breaking capacity and 3 is instantaneous tripping current.
