but you'd have to also factor in what you are eating.

losing 3000 calories a day, eating almost nothing IS VERY DANGEROUS.

losing 20 pounds in a month is probably not safe.

try 20 pounds in a year.

also, i recommend you just ride as far as you can, using the smallest gear [ the gear which is the hardest to pedal]

it helps if you can find a track or circuit to ride, so you don't end up tired 20 miles away from your house. then you can take a rest and pedal home slowly on the biggest gear.

remember, don't push yourself past the limit. if after exercising you feel dizzy, do not exercise that hard. it could also be a sign that you did not eat enough or drink enough.

it depends on how fast you are walking the miles as to burn 30 pounds you will need to burn 105000 calories and the best way to burn fat which I'm guessing is your goal is to change your diet but remember don't lose more then 2 pounds a week or you could risk losing your muscle mass

Riding a mile only won't take more than a few minutes, so it won't use up any meaningful amount of calories. Any weight loss will be down to how well you are managing your diet.

With the high calorie foodstuffs that we have available today it's generally hard to exercise hard enough/long enough to lose any meaningful weight that way.

Exercise can help, but you pretty much have to start with controlling what you eat to lose any weight.

A sensible loss rate is 2-4 lbs/week, which is doable on a fairly normal-looking and healthy diet. If you manage 1-3 lbs/week that's fine too.

4-6 months is a reasonable time to lose 30 lbs in.
