1 gal of water is 0.13368 of a cubic foot at room temperature. it will expand 1603:1 also at sea level

The steam to water volume ratio depends on which reference temperature one selects for the water and the ambient pressure.

T=temperature (373.15K)

P=Pressure (101,325Pa)

The assumptions here are that water is boiling at exactly 373.15 degrees and that you are at a pressure of 1 ATM or 101,325Pa. For instance, at high altitudes, pressure drops therefore boiling point drops and these assumptions would no longer give an accurate estimate.

If you plug the values into the equation you will find that you now have 6,433.89 L of steam or 1,699.65 gallons. Therefore we can assume that water expands 1700x under certain conditions. Hope this was helpful.

I would just like to say... to who ever wrote this answer. one liter of water is not 1000 kg. density is 1kg/L or 1 gram per mL.... one gallon does not make 1700 gallons of steam, that is crazy and wrong

At 212 F, equals 213.8 cu.ft. of steam 1in^3 of water = 1600 in^3 of steam 1 gal of water = 231 in^3 of water 231*1600 = 369600 in^3 = 213.8 ft^3

Calculate the amount of water in a gallon of water. The mass of the steam will be exactly the same as the mass of the water. No mass should be lost.

I cubic foot of water will expand to 16 cubic feet of steam. Containing the expansion is what creates the pressure in a closed vessel
