This question cannot be answered.

An area is "square", a volume is "cubic".

The question asks about the volume of an area... and is meaningless.

A square yard contains 9 square feet

An area 30 feet by 50 feet contains 1,500 square feet or 166.67 square yards

You need to calculate the hole in cubic yards. I would first find cubic feet by changing 3" to (1/4) ft and multiply times 500 to get 500/4 = 125 cf. Next change to cubic yards by dividing by 27,( since 1 cubic yard is 27 cubic ft), to get 125/27 = 4.6 cubic yards. When you buy dirt by the yard you are really buying cubic yards so you would need 4.6 yards of dirt.

100 feet X 50 feet X 1/3 feet = 1,666.67 cubic feet

1,666.67 cubic feet / 27 cubic feet per cubic yard = 61.73 cubic yards

When you buy yards of dirt you are really buying cubic yards. So change your dimensions to yards and multiply together; 10 x 10 x 1.33 = 133 cubic yards. So you would buy 133 yards of dirt.

If applied 1 foot deep it will cover 108 square feet.

If applied 6 inches deep it will cover 216 square feet.

It all depends on how thick you apply it.

That depends on how deep you want the dirt. For 32 sq ft and 2 inches deep, that is 32 x 2/12 = 5.33 cu ft. Dirt weighs 100 pounds per cu ft, so you need 533 pounds; at 40 pounds per bag that is over 13 bags. For one inch deep, it is less than 7 bags and for 4 inch, 26 bags
