That depends on the size and nature of the track. Most running tracks are 400 metres, so 2.5 laps would be needed; many walking tracks can be in excess or 20 kilometres, so only doing 5% of one lap would be enough.

It takes 9.25 laps around an NHL size rink to make a mile. It takes 5.75 lap to make a kilometer.

It depends on the size of the track (each one is different). There will often be a sign posted near the track to tell you how far each lap is.
