i assume you mean cruise the oceans and not sink because they weigh so much. This is because of the displacement of the water they are sitting in. Take a 5 gallon bucket and try to push it down into water with the open top the last to get wet. it displaces 5 gallons of water when almost about to go under. 5 gallons of water weighs 5 * 8.34 = 41.7 pounds. it takes 41.7 pounds of water to fill the bucket to the top and 41.7 pounds to sink it as well. big ships displace tons of water and weigh less then the water they displace.
