No of rectangles with top side of length 1 = 8(8+7+6+5+4+3+2+1) No of rectangles with top side of length 2 = 7(8+7+6+5+4+3+2+1) and so on.... upto No of rectangles with top side of length 8 = 8(8+7+6+5+4+3+2+1) Total = (8+7+6+5+4+3+2+1)(8+7+6+5+4+3+2+1) = (8*9/2)(8*9/2) = 36*36 =1296

well... there is 64 if you want to find the area of squares... unless u talking about the total squares u can get while combining them.. I'm afraid I'm the wrong person to answer this
