It is more complex than simply dividing 1000 by 10. Consider this: When you put 2 cubes in a row and then another row like that side by side... you get a cube of length 2 times the original length. So basically you are using 4 cubes but you have 4 original + 1 new cube.

So you repeat this algo for 1000 cubes and the answer comes out to be closer to 54
