A year on Mars is almost twice as long as a year on Earth, being 686.9726 Earth days long. However, this would be in 24 hour "Earth days", which are about forty minutes shorter than the Martian solar day.

A Martian year is about 668.6 Martian solar days. (That is about 1.88 Earth years.) A solar day, or 'sol', is how long it takes the Sun to return to the meridian, and it varies slightly each day: the average length is 24 hours 39 minutes and 35 seconds.

Martian "days" (one rotation) are slightly longer than Earth's, lasting about 24.66 Earth hours. As it orbits further from the Sun, its "year" (one revolution around the Sun) takes about 687 Earth days. So the Martian year consists of 668.6 Martian days. A Martian day is 39.5 minutes longer than an Earth Day. But Mars' circumference is just over half of Earth's, so its spin velocity is also about half, just 868 km/hr compared to Earth's 1674 km/hr at the Equator.

There are approximately 59,313,600 Earth seconds in a year on Mars.

(Approximately 686.5 Earth days in a Mars year x 24 hours a day = 16,476 Earth hours in a Mars year x 60 minutes in a day = 988,560 Earth minutes in a Mars year x 60 seconds in a minute = 59, 313,600 Earth seconds in a Mars year).

1 earth day = 86,400 seconds

Earth's period of revolution in its orbit around the sun is 365.25 days = (354.25 x 86,400) = 31,557,600 seconds.

Mars' period of revolution in its orbit around the sun is 687 earth days = (687 x 86,400) = 59,356,800 seconds.
