1 Meter= 100 centimeters, so 1 Meter2 = 1002 centimeters or 10,000cm2.

For example, say you want to convert 5m2 into cm2.

5m2 x 1002cm/m2 = 50,000cm2

Notice that the m2s cancel out so its really just 5x1002cm=50,000cm2

Meter is to measure a length. Square meter is to measure an area. If some terrain has a rectangular shape you can calculate it's area simply multiplying length by width, and you get total area in square meters. For instance, if a piece of land is 10m long and 4m wide, it's area is 40 sq m (40 multiplied by 4 equals 40).
