Number of 2x2 squares= 7x7=49

Number of 3x3 squares= 6x6=36

Number of 4x4 squares= 5x5=25

Number of 5x5 squares= 4x4=16

Number of 6x6 squares= 3x3=9

Number of 7x7 squares= 2x2=4

Number of 8x8 squares= 1x1=1

Total number of Squares= 8^2+7^2+6^2+...+2^2+1^2= 204 sc.9102008hen

64, basic math, checkers/chess board have 8 squares to a side, 8 x 8 = 64 or you can be technical and say 204   Wiki User

Not sure which you mean, so i'll answer both.

There are 64 black and white little squares.

But on a chessboard there are a total of 204 squares.   Wiki User
