So 3/3 which is 18 sweets plus 5 sweets = 23 sweets

Then (n-5) -(n-5)/3 =12 (given).
Multilply equation by 3
3(n-5) -(n-5) =36
Simplify
2(n-5) =36
Solve
2n=36+10
n=23
