A gallon of water occupies 1 gallon of space. A gallon is a measure of volume. So this is a trick question. Unless you want it in different units (m^3, in^3) this question makes no sense. You could say it takes up 0.00378541178 meters cubed

Presumably same as a gallon of any other liquid :-)

American gallon = 8 American pints = 3.785 litre

Imperial gallon = 8 Imperial pints = 4.546 litre

The difference comes from the fact that the American pint is 16 fluid ounces, while the Imperial pint is 20 fl. oz.

A small container, seven inches on all sides, would not quite be filled by an Imperial Gallon.

A US Gallon would be just under 4.75 inches deep in the same container. 1 gallon=3.785 liter

One gallon or four quarts exist in one gallon of water. Here are some water volume comparisons:

1 gallon = 4 quarts = 8 pints = 128 fluid ounces = 231 cubic inches

1 liter = 0.2642 gallons = 1.0568 quart = 61.02 cubic inches

1 million gallons = 3.069 acre-feet = 133,685.64 cubic feet
