Who was isaac newtons mother?

Isaac Newton's mother, born Hannah Ayscough was a widow at the time of his birth, his father having died during her pregnancy. Isaac was her first child. She married Rev. Barnabas Smith when Newton was 3 years old and had 3 more children, Benjamin, Mary and Hannah. Newton's relationship with his step-father was far from good, he was raised by his Grandmother until the death of his step-father. His relationship with his step-siblings may have been better, he left them most of his money on his death.Hannah Ayscough, born in Market Overton in Rutland in 1623 to James & Mary Ayscough. Died 1679 in Stamford, Lincolnshire when Isaac was 36. Buried at Colsterworth on June 4, 1679 by her son, next to his father in the church.Isaac Newton's mother was Hannah Ayscough, from Market Overton in the county of Rutland (England's smallest county). His father was also called Isaac Newton, and was a prosperous farmer. However, he died three months before young Isaac was born.Hannah left Isaac the younger in the care of her parents, James Ayscough and Marjery Blyth, when he was only three years old in order to move to North Witham to marry the local vicar, Barnabas Smith. They had three children, but when the Rev. Smith died in 1653 Hannah returned to her parent's home and resumed the care of Isaac, who by then was ten. The fate of the three children she had by Smith is not known- presumably they were adopted by relatives of his.Hannah did not want her son to persue an academic career, wishing him to become a farmer like his father, so took him out of school for a year. However, Isacc's uncle William was aware of his nephew's academic potential, and was instrumental in securing him his place at Trinity College when he was 19.There was little love lost between the great scientist and his mother- he came to resent her having abandoned him when he was young, and Hannah seemed to be more interested in her farm than in her son's academic achievements. She died on 4th June 1679 at the age of 56, and is buried in Colsterworth next to her first husband, Isaac Newton Snr.
