The "z-score" is derived by subtracting the population mean from the measurement and dividing by the population standard deviation. It measures how many standard deviations the measurement is above or below the mean. If the population mean and standard deviation are unknown the "t-distribution" can be used instead using the sample mean and sample deviation.

What shows how far away a measurement is from the mean or average of the set?

a line of best fit, on a graph you draw the line where it is closest to most points and measure how far it is away from the line. http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/gcsebitesize/maths/images/graph_53.gif

What is the word which tells how many standard deviations a measurement is away from mean?

Z-Score.

What are the the relevant of studing statistics?

if you understand statistic it is harder for someone to bamboozel you, or cheat you, or get away with lies. especially people who run for election

What is a vector measurement?

A measurement that has magnitude and direction. The magnitude is equal to the absolute value of the vector measurement. For example, Velocity is a vector measurement. A velocity of -20 miles per 1 second would suggest moving away from the origin point in a two-dimensional measurement at a rate of 20 miles per 1 second. The absolute value of this would be 20 miles per 1 second, which would also be the speed. Therefore, speed is the magnitude of Velocity. Subsequently, any measurement that has a magnitude, but no direction, is not a Vector measurement, but rather a scalar measurement. Some examples of vector measurements would be Displacement, Velocity, and Acceleration.

What is the error propagation in numerical methods?

Error propagation in numerical analysis is just calculating the uncertainty or error of an approximation against the actual value it is trying to approximate. This error is usually shown as either an absolute error, which shows how far away the approximation is as a number value, or as a relative error, which shows how far away the approximation is as a percentage value.

Deviation and absolute deviation are two other measures.

What is deviation in statistics?

Deviation, actually called "standard deviation" is, in a set of numbers, the average distance a number in that set is away from the mean, or average, number.
