Halloween started in Ireland as a pagan holiday for people to celebrate the spirits of their ancestors. Then many, many years later people started dressing into costumes to scare away evil spirits. Now in this day and age it is a known holiday for children of some countries to dress up and get candy.
Irish and English immigrants brought the tradition of Halloween to America in the mid 1800s.
Halloween ( or Samhain) originally began in Ireland with the Celtic pagans to mark the time of harvest. Halloween also marks the new year for many pagan religions.
