No, New Amsterdam was the colony in Manhattan that later became New York City. New Netherlands was the greater province that New Amsterdam was a part of. The greater province of New Netherlands consisted of land which later became parts of New York State, New Jersey, Connecticut, Delaware, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island.

New Amsterdam was a colony in the province of New Netherlands, the same way modern-day New York City is a city in the state of New York.
