Picture a Mickey Mouse hat and you're close. Pull the ears down so they are on the sides and that's it. The carbon atom has an oxygen atom on either side of it so the three atoms are kind of "lined up" to make the molecule, and it is said to be linear. Wikipedia has a picture and more information.
