The lowest common denominator is 6. You simply multiply 1/3 times two and 1/2 times three to get 2/6 and 3/6 respectively

so make lower number the same i.e. 7 x 2 = 14

then 2/7 x 2/2 = 4/14

and 1/2 x 7/7 = 7/14
