Safety precautions when working with electricity:

  • Turn off the power and discharge an residual charge before doing anything
  • Be sure you are the only one who can turn the power back on
  • Test to be sure the power is off

If you can't turn off the power:

  • Find another way to do what needs to be done, or
  • Understand the voltage and current in the system
  • Do not contact exposed energized parts, even with tools, unless you , the parts, and the tools are properly insulated for the voltage involved.
  • Don't work alone
  • Ensure adequate illumination
  • Don't work in wet conditions

For voltages above about 200 volts, ensure that an Arc Flash Hazard Assessment has been performed and if an Arc Flash Hazard exists, wear the appropriate level of Arc Flash Protection.
