Because you're simply adding everything together !.. 1000+40 = 1040 1000+30 = 1030 1000+20 = 1020 and 1000+10 = 1010... Add everything together and you get... 4000+40+30+20+10 which is 4100 !

10 Celsius is what in Fahrenheit?

Start by multiplying 10 with 9 and divide by 5. Then add 32 to the answer. In this case the answer is 50 degree fahrenheit. Multiple 10 by 2 (10x2=20) then subtract 10% (20-2=18) then add 32 (32+18=50)

Take 1000 and add 40 to it Now add another 1000 Now add 30 Add another 1000 Now add 20 Now add another 1000 Now add 10 What is the total?

5000, Unless I am missing something, it is 4100. You are adding multiples of 10s, not multiples of 100s, so it would take a LOT to add to that 5th 1000. Although I don't see how either answer is a joke, I guess the point is that you can get tricked into thinking it is 5000 rather than 4100? Not sure why it says "another" 1000 the first time you add 1000 (to the original 1000), but I don't think that's the joke. The only tricks I can see is if you are not meant to add parts of it or the part that you are adding should be getting bigger each time (add 40, then 70 (40 + 30) then, 90... even that wouldn't get to 5000) but if this is the exact wording, any trick I can see would be sort-of unsatisfying. 1000 + 40 = 1040 1040 + 1000 = 2040 2040 + 30 = 2070 2070 + 1000 = 3070 3070 + 20 = 3090 3090 + 1000 = 4090 4090 + 10 = 4100, right?

What number can you add to twenty so that the sum has a zero in the ones?

You can add 0 to 20 to get 20, or 10 to 20 and get 30 (In fact, you can try any multiple of 10). Otherwise, there are no other values you can add to 20 to get a 0 for the number in front of the decimal place.

How do you subtract fractions from whole numbers with dissimilar fractions?

Say you have 5 and 1/10 and you have to add 6 and 3/20, you add the whole numbers, (11) and then convert the 10 of 1/10 to 20 (20/10 is 2), then you have to multiply the 1 by 2 to get 2/20 (equivalent fraction of 1/10). Now you can add the fractions, i.e. 4/20 (or simplified, 1/5). Final answer is 11 and 1/5
