Trying to build a kitchen cupboard in alcove as cheaply as possible never done anything like this before apart from measurements could you please advise an idiot on what other things to think about?

First thought, buying ready made may be cheaper in the long run. Alcove implies a closet size space with no door. Cheapest way in this type space would be to put shelf supports on the wall and plywood shelves. Supports being 3/4 inch by 1 inch tall strips of plywood on the sides and across the back if the shelf is going to be longer than 2 feet. Once the shelves are in place, you can then face the edges with 1x2 or whatever is appropriate for this cabinet. Doors can be an issue, 3/4 inch Birch plywood with a backcut bevel would be the simplest door. You have to have some sort of cabinet, bookcase, entertainment center, something to look at for idea's. Everything like this goes together pretty much the same way. One piece builds on another. Only other tip, saws cut fingers as well as wood. Pay attention to what you are doing.
