AnswerThirteen epistles have been attributed to Paul. Hebrews was also at one stage attributed to him, but that is clearly not the case, so we can say 'definitely', not 'probably' not written by Paul. It was never attributed to him until late in the second century.

Of the Pauline epistles, the Pastorals are almost unanimously regarded by critical scholars as not written by Paul - 1 Timothy, 2 Timothy and Titus.

The majority of critical scholars also say that Ephesians, Colossians and 2 Thessalonians were not written by Paul.

Many liberal Christian scholars now accept only Romans, 1 Corinthians, 2 Corinthians, Philemon, Galatians, Philippians and 1 Thessalonians as genuine. However, A.Q. Morton has cast some doubt on 1 Thessalonians and Philippians, because a computer analysis shows that they do not share the same dictation or writing style as the others.

The Apostle Paul is usually credited with 14 letters called the Pauline Epistles - though Hebrews is in question as are some others. They begin in Romans and continue uninterrupted until Hebrews.

When were Christian scriptures first written?

In this context, Christian scriptures means the New Testament books, rather than the books of the Old Testament. Most biblical scholars accept that the Gospel According to St Mark was the first written of the four canonical Gospels, and that it was written around 70 CE. Some other Christian scriptures were probably written prior to the gospels, most notably Paul's epistles. Paul is believed to have written the epistles in the 50s CE, but they may have been somewhat earlier. The Epistle to the Hebrews was probably also written well before 70 CE. The earliest layers of some other New Testament books may have been written long before the time of Paul's epistles.
