Why do bricks have a concave hollow on one side?

I would guess that it is to make a better mortar joint. Mortar is forced into these holes and holds the bricks together better. Also the holes make the bricks lighter and air in the holes acts as insulation. I moved your question out of math to where I hope you will get a definitive answers.

How can you know anything about black holes if nothing not even information can escape the event horizon?

Everything that we know about black holes is theorized. Since our models of quantum physics and general relativity do not work (Infinite loops, division by zero, etc.) *within* black holes. Note that I emphasized "within." The physics outside of the event horizon do work, so we know, according to the current models, that there is a point of no return, that they bend space around them, etc.. The problem why we cannot know for sure right now what happens inside a black hole is because no physicist to date have discovered a viable model of quantum gravity, which is thought to be able to explain black holes. Infinity and math generally aren't compatible (With the exception of certain types of calculus). As any math involving infinity must also equal infinity. Beyond the rubicon of a black hole we don't know. However, we do know black holes exist as we have discovered objects that can only be black holes. In a very basic sense, math can explain everything up to the point where the curvature of space accelerates towards infinite. The problem is it never reaches infinity but continutes *infinitely* towards infinity, so math beyond that always equals infinity, therefore does not work.

What is the name of scientist that identified Black holes?

Albert Einstein predicted their existence using some pretty complicated math. It was not until some years after his death that we actually detected one (Cygnus X-1).
