General Practitioners (GPs) are not paid as well as a specialist in a specific area of the body. Then there is the Internist who knows all about the body and decides what is causing the patient's problem. Of course plastic surgery is the biggest grossing salary going. I don't feel there are negatives to GPs unless the person going into the medical profession is greedy and wants to make a name for themselves. GPs are more than just your family doctor. Without them (they have the hardest job) because they have to exam you, test you and figure out what specialist to send their patient to. If I had a chance to be a doctor then I wouldn' turn up my nose up at being a GP and it wouldn't be all about money. Health Care and the Code of Ethics has been lacking for a long time, and a person should go into the medical profession WANTING to help those in pain or with a debilitating disease and there is no better reward than that. Healing should be the #1 factor and also dedication by ANY doctor to give the best patient care. Now it's appears it's more about money, lack of communication and the patient suffers. How doctors can just look at a patient that is suffering or frightened because they have a terrible disease is beyond me. GPs make a suitable living. Here in British Columbia they can make $150,000 - $200,000/year. Of course they have to pay staff and rent, but many doctors go into business with two or more partners in the office.
